Work Package 5

Animal Health & welfare

Objectives: WP5 aims to explore the effects of halophyte consumption on health and welfare and to identify and assess risk factors for animal health (metabolic, infectious, and parasitic diseases) and welfare (environment, nutrition, behaviour). Two case studies will be carried out in Greece (Crete and Kasos) with emphasis on the stress/risk factors (salinization, drought, thermal stress) to develop and promote best practices for animal health and welfare. The project will focus on wide moist areas, salt marshes and plains around lakes of Burdur and Yarışlı in Turkey. Within the scope of the project, the disease and welfare assessment parameter measurements of the sheep and goat herds to be followed in these regions will be collected within the framework of the material method specified by Greece and other partners.
