The University of León (ULE) is a public Higher Education Spanish public University with two campuses (León and Ponferrada). It consists of eight faculties, including Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and six schools. In addition, it also includes a Core Facility for Instrumental Techniques and an Animal House to carry out in vivo experiments with laboratory animals. Associated with the university is also the Castilla y León Veterinary Clinic Hospital. ULE also participates in the IGM “Instituto de Ganadería de Montaña” (Mountain Livestock Institute), which is a mixed centre of the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) and ULE for the study of small ruminants. ULE has a long tradition in research related to animal health, since its Veterinary Faculty is one of the most prestigious in Spain. The main tasks appointed to ULE consist of the characterization of anthelmintic, antibacterial, and antiparasitic properties of halophyte extracts. In vitro and in vivo trials will be conducted with plant extracts and the compounds purified from them. These tasks will be carried out in different places of the University: the laboratory of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (ULE) (in vitro tests); the Core Facility for Instrumental Techniques (partial characterization of plant extracts); the animal house and the experimental farm placed at the IGM Mountain Livestock Institute (CSIC) (in vivo trials).
